Sea Island & Savannah

Jack and I got to Sea Island about 7

Thursday night and immediately went out to eat at a place called

Gnats(seafood) on St. Simons with his parents, his sister Hannah and

her boyfriend Chance. Jack's best friend from high school, Wesley, who

goes to UGA, got in town about the same time we did, so he went out

with us. Jack and I both had a chicken ceasar salad and fried pickles

for an appetizer. After dinner, we went back to the house and unpacked

and rested a little while. Then, Jack, Wesley and I walked down to the

beach for a little while and came back in about 11 to go to sleep.

Friday morning, we were out of the house by 8 am and stopped at the

Frederica Cafe on the way to Savannah for the St. Patrick's Day

parade. I had coffee, scrambled eggs and toast. Jack had french toast.

Then, the parents, Jack, Wesley and I headed to Savannah. We got there

about 9:45 and parked at one of Mr. Hall's lawyer friends office. It

was a really pretty old white building with lots of high ceilings and

porches-perfect for viewing the parade. We used the bathroom there and

walked through a few squares to St. John's cathedral where the priest

blesses all the Grand Marshalls of the parade and such. We got there

right when the parade was starting and the Virginia Tech band was

leading off. Think about how they have parades on TV and they do their

little performance so the TV crew can see--they do it there so the

priest can see. Then a huge bag pipe and drum band walked by and about

800 more followed. I forgot my camera, but those bands are my favorite

part. Then, we just walked around and Jack and Wesley ran into alot of

people they knew from high school and such. After a while, we met back

at the law firm for some free food and people watching from the

balcony. Around 2 o'clock, we decided to try to beat some traffic, so

we all loaded up and headed back to Sea Island. When we got back over

here, Mr. Hall wanted me to see Ocean Forest, so we all drove out

there and got on golf carts and rode around to the northern tip of the

Island. I wanted to see an alligator, so we crept up on a few of the

lakes on the golf course and found some little 3 foot gators. It was

really overcast that day, so they weren't out on the banks sunbathing.

Then, we went back to the Club House and I got a tour of the women's

and men's locker rooms. They were REALLY nice! Then we went and sat in

the bar for a little while and talked to the Head Chef, who has cooked

for President Bush before. He cooked for him when the G8 Summit was

here a few years ago, and he liked him so much, he invited him up to

DC to cook for him in person. Then, we went back to the house, got

showers and went up to eat at Big George's at the Sea Island Beach

Club. Everyone had fish & chips. It was great! This was Wesley's last

night, so we went out to the beach again and just kind of sat out

there for a while. It was really cold and windy, so we just went back

inside after a while. We didn't get to sleep until 1.

On Saturday, we slept until noon (on accident) and practically wasted

the whole day. But not really... the parents, Jack, Wesley and I went

up to the beach club for lunch and lay out time. I had a grilled

veggie wrap with fruit and Jack had a chicken salad sandwich with

fruit. The kids had our bathing suits on, so we went and layed out for

a while. The weather was like 80, but cloudy, so we didn't realize how

burnt we were getting. We came back in about 4. Wesley had to leave

and go back to Macon because his spring break was just ending as ours

was starting. We all got showered and the parents, Jack and I and

Hannah and her boyfriend all went up to dinner at Ocean Forest. It was

really hot in there and loud because there were a lot of older people

who couldn't really hear what the other was saying, so they had to

speak loudly. I started with a strawberry and mandarin orange and

greens salad and then had fried shrimp, mashed potatoes and broccoli.

Banana pudding for desert. Jack had the same salad, snapper with an

onion marmalade and mashed potatoes and broccoli. He also had banana

pudding for desert. Since it was so hot in there, Jack and I walked

outside for a little while to cool off. On the way, there was a piano

player, and I requested Moon River and Eidelveiss. He knew both of

them. And he complemented me on my extensive knowledge of good music

selections.  Then, back to the house to watch Fried Green Tomatoes and

fall asleep.

We got up at 9 for church by 10:45. Got to church....Wesley United

Methodist Church at Frederica. It was beautiful and the Palm Sunday

service was even better! I met the pastor and he was really nice.

After the service, we went to the Lodge at Sea Island for brunch. It

was my favorite meal by far! It was just a huge buffet that had things

such as mini quiches, oysters, sushi, pork chops, beef tenderloin,

baked chicken, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, a whole breakfast bar,

like 9 different salads, omelette bar, and a bananas foster bar. The

whole desert section was in tiny little portions so you could try at

least 8 of them. I only tried bananas foster, creme brule, and bread

pudding. After that, we were royally stuffed, so we went back and

finished Fried Green Tomatoes and napped for a little while.
