Grey Street

Pat and Lisa overslept (7:20 a.m.) so we ate breakfast at the lodge. It was good good. We’ll do that again tomorrow. It was raining, so we drove out to the Maroon Bells. There was a blonde ranger at the gate. Lisa said Pat was flirting with her. She included an extra day in our pass. She told Pat that she was from Alaska and had worked there 13 years. We drove up to the Maroon Lake parking lot and it was raining so we didn’t hike to the lake. It was snowing on the mountaintops. We could not see the tops because of the cloud cover. The Maroon Bells are the most photographed mountains in North America. Then we drove back to town and decided to eat at the J-Bar. It is in the historic Hotel Jerome built in 1889! It was good good. Lisa had Cobb salad and Pat had grilled chicken wrap with tortilla soup. We had the same waitress that we had at the Mexican place last night. She was much nicer today and she asked us if we were from Aspen and we decided we must look rich & famous. In fact, she remembered exactly what we had ordered from the night before. Then we drove back out to the Maroon Bells again and the blond ranger was there and she said that only buses were allowed from 9:00 am-5:00 P.M. but Pat smiled at her and she said we could go ahead this time. We hiked up to the lake, it was still overcast, and all the colors mixed together were grey. We made reservations to go horseback riding in the morning. Pat and Lisa went to Takah Sushi for dinner. We had giant egg roll, salad and 4 kinds of sushi. We saw this guy http://www.davidbrenner.net/ . Lisa wanted to ask him for his autograph, but Pat wouldn’t let her. Then we walked around town.
