Today is the last day of vacation so we decided to get a lot of hiking in. We left for the forest around 830. We started hiking the
Manzanita trail. We walked
about 3/4 of a mile and got bored with the trail and decided to go back and cross the bridge to the Bull of the Woods Pasture. The trail is 1.8 miles one way in. Starting elevation is 10,400 feet. When we reached the pasture, we had climbed 11,800 feet. To get there we had to cross this bridge. One slip and you would fall into the rushing waters of the Rio
Hondo River. Also, if we made it
across, we would have to cross it a second time to make it back to Alabama. Fortunately, we made it both times. After we hiked, we had some nachos at the Stray Dog
Cantina in the ski valley village. Lisa wanted to ride the ski lift to the top of the mountain but Pat was too scared. Then we stopped in Arroyo
Seco for some ice cream at the
Taos Cow.
