It was a wolf spider..

Not a tarantula.  What a relief. Apparently you can go on Wolf Spider night hunts, their 8 eyes reflect the light from a flashlight.  So, when you come to Midland, after dinner at KD's BBQ, we'll go wolf spider hunting.
