Our last full day in Cozumel, we slept in until about 9. We were all completely wiped after scuba yesterday. We didn’t realize it at the time, but we were pretty much every muscle on our body while we were 40 feet under. We decided to go onto the other side of the island again and hit up the east coast beach. The last time we went, it was a sunday, so it was a lot less crowded today. No one asked the men if they could take a picture of them.
We decided to go in town and shop for a little while. If you leave from our house to get to the other side of the island, you can take a road all the way down and then up, but there is also one road that cuts the island in half. This is how we got to back town this time. We stopped on the side of the road at a roadside souvenir shop. Kris got a rug and a hammock that we can both use. Amanda got a purse and Curt got a chess set. Good buys all around. Once we got into town, we were pretty hungry so we stopped at a restaurant for some tacos. Pretty much every place we’ve eaten at has tacos from 15 to 25 pesos, around $1.50 to $2.50 USD. The four of us ate lunch for 150 pesos. And it was delicious. I got a fish taco and chicken taco. Kris got a shrimp taco and pork torta (sandwich). Since it was a pretty late lunch, we decided to head home, shower up and then go back out and explore the nightlife for our last night out.
However, on our way home, just outside of downtown, ole’ beetlejuice took a turn for the worse. We have had to push start the car several times this trip and this time she decided she needed a break on the side of the road. We had been standing there for about three and half minutes when the guy who rented the car to us sees us and stops to talk and offer help. He got in the seat while we all pushed and got it going. While talking to him on the side of the road, the car just shut off in the middle. He decided he wanted to give us a different car and while we were sad to see her go, we decided that would be okay. While waiting on our next ride, he noticed a scratch on the side of the car. We talked about it for a while and slightly argued and it got awkward at times but we all decided only getting about 65% of our deposit back was fair. We rode away in a similar VW orange bug but was smoother and had more comfortable seats. This will be our ride for the rest of the trip. We are going back in town for dinner and we may even hit up a disco.
